Louise Hall, President of the North Port Art Center for 2010-2011 and an award winning Artist and former Dress Designer, has a second wall quilt hanging in the Lobby of the North Port Public Library, at So. Biscayne Drive & Tamiami Trail, which has been recently framed. “Racism Is Woven Throughout The Fabric Of Our Lives” was designed and constructed in July, 2000 by Louise Hall. It was shown with fifty-six other wall quilts as part
of the ‘Roots Of Racism: Ignorance & Fear’ display, on tour at prestigious shows around the U.S., for three years. It was then one of the wall quilts invited to be on display at the U.S. Embassy in Pakistan for three more years, through the Art in U.S. Embassies Program. All of the quilts had very strong messages decrying racism and the injustices associated with it. Louise attempts to convey through the “woven” design, that what has transpired in the past regarding racism, does affect us all, to some degree.
Since 2003, another wall quilt designed and constructed by Louise Hall has been hanging in the North Port Public Library lobby with the message: “You will always need to be able to read & understand the meaning of words your whole life, whatever your endeavor”, titled ‘Words & Images’, is now on the opposite wall of the entrance.
Hall has been a member of the North Port Area Art Guild since 1991, except for the three and one half years spent living in Sarasota. In February 2000, Louise founded the Surface Design Sarasota group, which shares artistic ideas & techniques, and is celebrating their 10th year, next month.
