Every month the Gene Matthews Boys and Girls Club of North Port plays host to an evening fundraiser called a “Quarter Auction,” and on October 6, 6:30pm – 9:00pm, the North Port Art Center will be the recipient of the funds raised that evening.
This is a fun, interactive event held monthly and open to the public. Its main purpose is to help a particular charity raise funds for their organization, while giving local merchants a chance to show off their wares.
Here’s how it works: You buy a paddle for $3, and bring a couple of rolls of quarters. Participants “bid” on merchandise displayed by local vendors. After all bids are placed, a number is drawn and the merchandise is awarded to the participant whose number is called and whose paddle is raised.
Sounds a bit complicated, but it really isn’t. It’s a lot of fun, and the charity of the month (that’s NPAC) receives a portion of the paddle purchase money, a portion of the vendor space rentals, half of the 50/50 raffle, and all of the proceeds from food that the charity sells.
